People LOVE to spend money.
I don’t consider myself much of a shopper, but boy when I do….
I’ll walk into an outdoor store and see way overpriced brand name hiking gear, I get flutters in my stomach. I am ELATED to purchase new hunter green North Face jackets and other bullshit I don’t actually need.
When I go to William Sonoma and look at all the kitchenware I literally get excited. I hand over my credit card like a savage consumer of herb-infused olive oils.
When I am at a restaurant and want to treat myself to the nicest steak and glass of wine, I feel like a Queen.
No matter what income level you’re at, and no matter what stores tickle your fancy, I KNOW you feel this too. Spending money can feel AMAZING. It is IN us to get excited about bringing new resources into our lives.
So, why then as entrepreneurs do we consistently sell our services as if we are being bothersome? Why do we sell as if our clients AREN’T dying to hand their money to us?
Because we are ONLY thinking of the painful money spending experiences. Our brains don’t think of the exciting times that we have spent money and LOVED our purchases, it goes straight to the times we had buyers remorse, frustrations, and not-enoughness.
What if we started selling as if we KNOW our clients have been looking high and low for EXACTLY what we do? What if you started selling your product like you’re a NorthFace store and Becca Pike just walked in? What if we started accepting credit cards like the money magnets we are?
Like, “HERE I AM. I AM THE SERVICE YOU’VE BEEN DYING FOR. THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR MONEY SO I CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE AND MAKE YOU HAPPY.”
The difference between feeling empowered versus unempowered as an entrepreneur when it comes to sales comes down to how we think about sales and the actions we take to get new clients. That’s it. Our thoughts and our actions create every result we have.
