Sleep Well, Live Better

Have you ever tried to put a kid that didn’t want to go to sleep to bed? It’s like wrestling an alligator on methamphetamine.

Kids do not want to sleep because they love being awake, and more importantly they love being alive. They do not want to miss a single thing!

When was the last time you did not want to go to sleep?

Or, when was the last time you couldn’t wait to wake up?

You have the ability to control your life and create circumstances that make you not want to go to sleep or to create events that make you want to wake up.

Sleep is awesome, and is a much needed part of rest and recovery. But, sleep does not need to be something that you crave and certainly not something that you look forward to.

Proper sleep hygiene along with meaningful days and intentional living will create a situation where sleep is just a necessary part of your existence, not something that you long for.

Proper sleep hygiene tips:

Set a bedtime. It will probably be earlier than you like, but, consistency is key. Be strict about it.

Breathe through your nose before you fall asleep. This will calm you and get you in a relaxed state as more oxygen reaches your body.

Use your bed for two things, and two things only, sleep and you probably guessed it…

Meaningful days and intentional living tips:

Control your morning.

Avoid task-oriented work early-email can wait, meetings can wait, and other people can wait.

Focus on your most important things first:

  • Read something inspiring
  • Set aside 10-15 minutes every morning to be inspired
  • Wake up 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to
  • Avoid the carbs
  • Sticking to a breakfast of fats and protein will give you better mental clarity
  • Utilize your calendar

Every minute of your day should have a purpose, even if that purpose is to sit and do nothing!

  • Block off time for busy work and emails.
  • Block off time for family.
  • Set aside time for you!

Interact with people in real life.

Humans are social creatures, but social media is not what we were created to do.

Find a stranger and wish them well, hold a door for someone, or just have a conversation with a friend on the phone.

And last, be not least, don’t forget to move!

With regards to exercise, something is always better than nothing

Go for a walk, touch your toes, twist and shout! Just do something!

Start getting excited about living your life!
